Instructions
INTRODUCTION

You have been chosen by one of Canada’s foremost publishing houses to create a storybook. Not just any story book, but a book with a twist. The twist is all up to you. You have a very limited budget so the book has to be entirely handmade.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS

Here is a list of suggestions on how to ‘twist’ your storybook
Story line…
Modernize a common children’s story
Base your story on an urban legend
Merge two or three stories together
Base your story around a song or apiece of music
Base your story on an artwork or artist
Base your story on a current event
Create a completely original story
Develop a story based on a situation in which you have been involved

Artwork…
Mix media – Pair unlikely materials together
Create a visually prominent, off beat, main character
Create a extremely fantastic environment
Create a visual motif that links the visuals to the story line
Take an old book and modify it in some way
– add photos, colour pages, cut out windows, merge and combine several…….
– Your story and artwork can be as bizarre or as realistic as you see fit.
– Just make sure your work is original and innovative!

The size of your book may be no larger than 5½” by 8½” and made of a minimum of 3 sheets of letter size paper. (So a cover, 5 spreads and a back page as a bare minimum)
