Learn how to use professional Layout software. Most magazines, newspapers, yearbooks and other published materials are created in InDesign. You will use it for your next assignment to create your Book.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS
PART 1: PRACTICE

– Look through the first part of the InDesign Manual and figure out how all the tools work
– You do not need to save / submit this file
– Spend a bit of time figuring our the tools – it will make part 2 easier

PART 2: APPLICATION – PICK ONE OF TWO CHOICES

Choice 1 – Recreate the ‘JAPAN TRIP’ Layout as per the video sample

Choice 2 – Create your own spread with your own photos, captions and write-up

– You will need: (You can use the Japan trip if you like, but do not have to)
o 6 to 8 photos to place in the layout – preferably about YOU.
o A short paragraph that explains something about why you chose those photos.
o A caption (description) for each photo.
o A fun headline to go with your layout.

What you need to do

o Pull down an Eyeline (See the first part of the booklet on how to create guides)
o Create your photo boxes and place your photos
 Your Dominant photo should cross the gutter
 Make it at least twice the size of any other photo
 When resizing photos hold down ‘shift’ to avoid distorting them
o Create textboxes for your ‘body’ text, your captions and the headlines
 Make sure your captions are no more than one column wide
 Make your text box(es) into two columns of text
 Use the ‘Paragraph Styles’ to make sure you have the correct fonts
o Make sure ALL your boxes are only a ½ pica apart (that is one square)
o Stay in the outside margin and keep the eye line intact.

Eyelines, Captions, Spacing, Alignment, Photos not stretched

CHALLENGE:

– Create some pulled text (Text box with larger text) with text wrapping around it
